16 Affiliate Programs to Monetize Your Blog
Do you want to make money with an affiliate marketing program?
You probably started your blog to make money from it at some point.
Affiliate marketing is one of the best ways bloggers can turn their blog traffic into money.
Affiliate marketing (besides selling my products and services) is my favorite way to generate passive income from my blog. It just happens, no matter where I am or what I'm doing.
Content creators recommend and sell products created by other companies to receive a commission from each sale made through their affiliate link.
This post may contain affiliate links, which means I will make a small commission if you purchase them. I only recommend what I believe will help you. You won't pay anything extra, but you will support the work of this blog to continue publishing helpful content. Thank you!{alertInfo}
When you become an affiliate partner of a brand
or product, you can add affiliate links to the content you create.
Here
I mean
blog posts, videos, social media posts, podcasts, books, etc.
Does the
question arise whether you should be involved in affiliate marketing at all?
Is this a way to monetize your blog and grow your business?
My
answer is a YES.
Don't believe for a moment that there is a trick
or a magic formula to making affiliate marketing work on your blog. You know
right away that there is no such thing.
As long as your blog has a
decent number of visitors and valuable content, you can successfully start
affiliate marketing.
If you're in the digital marketing business
online and have your blog - check out my list of affiliate programs and
networks.
I use most of them myself because they help me monetize
my blogs. I hope that you will succeed with some of them.
First, we
will look at a few basic things.
Is affiliate marketing a good choice for your business?
Affiliate marketing won't be - an extra big job for you if you already
write about your favorite resources for your blog. You can replace already
existing links with created affiliate links.
There are two more essential advantages of affiliate marketing:
- With the help of affiliate marketing, you generate additional income.
For your business to be successful in the long term, it is best to rely
on multiple sources of income. More money earned will allow you to maintain
your business over time.
- With affiliate marketing, you can monetize the content that you publish for free on your blog.
When you blog, you invest your time and energy in regularly writing blog
posts and social media posts. In case you have a large number of posts on your
blog, that's even better - it's never too late to start.
You can
add affiliate links to published posts and use them to republish on social
networks to get more readers and conversions.
What is an affiliate program?
An affiliate program is a specific program whose product offers you can
promote on the Internet. Large businesses use affiliate programs to offer
extra sales channels and revenue.
You automatically get a unique
affiliate link when you sign up for a company's affiliate program.
By
promoting an affiliate link on your blog, review (review), or video, you
receive a commission from the company whenever someone clicks on that link and
makes a purchase through it.
Affiliate links can be recognized by
the embedded part "ref" or "referrer." This addendum provides the company with
information to whom it owes a sales commission.
You can recognize
affiliate links when you hover over them.
Make sure to keep the
information about each affiliate program (especially email and password) in
one place in a separate folder.
You can shorten affiliate links
using the bitly tool and keep
track of clicks and earnings. It will give you an insight into which affiliate
program deserves the most attention.
How to choose affiliate products?
You certainly don't want to choose just any product. When you become an
affiliate partner of a program or network, you should focus on quality instead
of quantity.
Before that, it is best to do a little research on the
company you want to recommend. It is essential because you are using a
personal brand, so everything should fit in with your values.
Choose
products that fit your market niche.
Let's say - that you create
educational content on your blog for entrepreneurs who want to be successful
on social networks. Then you add links to your content from your favorite
massage parlor or hair salon.
It can automatically turn off readers. Why?
Because your blog is educational and this recommendation does not
fit the topic of your blog. It is necessary to carefully choose the product or
service that is closest to your niche.
However, if you can be
creative and fit your content into mentioning the product from the example -
nothing is impossible.
1. Choose a product that you have used yourself
I know it can seem tempting to promote a course you haven't taken or a
book you haven't read. I think it's best to resist the urge to recommend
products you have no experience with and haven't used.
In this
case, it can confuse the audience.
For example, you start your blog
recommending podcast recording equipment without starting your podcast.
Regardless
of how a product or service helped you - it's best to share that experience
and your story with your readers.
2. Affiliate program commission
The commission is usually defined as a percentage of the sale of the
affiliate company's product or service.
It happens with some of the
affiliate programs (often with web hosting) that the commission represents a
certain fixed amount.
In connection with the commission, you may encounter the following
situations:
- If you sell more products - the commission increases.
- Within one program, the commission may be different for each product. Also, products with high prices (which are more difficult to sell) may have a higher commission.
- The commission for physical products is usually low (compared to digital products) and fluctuates around 4%.
- There may be some benefits for new members.
For each affiliate program, check the total percentage of the amount you
should receive.
3. Terms of the affiliate program regarding payment
Affiliate companies usually pay once a month, although there are
exceptions.
If you want monthly payments - choose companies with
this condition.
When it comes to payment, with some companies,
there is a requirement that the affiliate partner reaches a certain amount of
money before receiving payment.
It obligates members to earn up to
a certain threshold to access their money (usually $50 or $100).
4. Duration of cookies in the affiliate program
Another essential factor in the selection is the lifetime of affiliate
cookies.
The cookie's duration means the time that elapses from the
first click on your affiliate link until the purchase.
For you as
an affiliate partner - this time should be as long as possible. Any affiliate
program can be less engaging if the lifetime of cookies is short.
Usually, the duration of cookies is about 60 days. When choosing an affiliate program, pay attention to the cookie policy.{alertInfo}
I will give the example of eBay, which I know is specific compared to other affiliate programs in terms of cookie duration. eBay operates according to a system of auctions that generally last 7 days.
To earn a commission here, someone would have to click on your link and make a purchase on the last day of the auction. In any other case, you will remain without commission.
5. Recommend the companies you stand behind
Before you start promoting any company's products, you should be sure
that the company's values match your core values and brand purpose.
Also,
pay attention to whether these brands have had a bad reputation because this
will have an impact on your brand when you promote their products.
That
is why it is necessary to do research before becoming an affiliate partner to
protect your brand.
You can find out more about each affiliate
company on its About page or familiarize yourself with its values via its
blog.
You fill out the application for the affiliate program of a
specific company by clicking on the Affiliate program option in the site
footer.
You can also use the contact page - and ask any questions
you may have.

Tell your audience that you use affiliate links
You've probably seen a statement starting with "This article contains
affiliate links..." in other blog posts.
According to the
Federal Trade Commission
(FTC), all content creators on the Internet are required to inform their
readers about affiliate links.
Your disclaimer about affiliate
links must be visible to readers before they start reading.
It is
essential to use the statement before placing affiliate links.
The
Federal Trade Commission requires that whenever you use affiliate links in a
blog post, you must let your readers know.
In case you're worried
about how your audience will react - you can add a personal sentence to the
basic statement, such as "Purchasing through an affiliate link helps me create
great blog content..." or something similar.
If you think you have
missed something in your affiliate marketing, visit the
